The Importance of EMRs in Emergency Medical Services
As an essential part of the EMS system, emergency medical responders are trained to be the first on the scene in emergencies. Their quick actions and decisions often mean the difference between life and death. EMRs play critical roles on EMS teams, across fire and police departments, at events, and even as transportation drivers.
Lab Session
Lab Classroom Features
Students will be taught to recognize, safely assess, and effectively manage crisis situations and patients of an emergency nature encountered in the pre-hospital setting. EMRs can work in areas such as on an EMS team for companies, fire, police department, medical coverage for event work, and transportation drivers.
The Curriculum
We will be using the Emergency Medical Responder: First On Scene, which is the most current selection of EMS practice and shows what the EMS systems and EMRs are doing around the country. Topics covered include:
Online work can be started before the course. You DO NOT need to have ALL the online work completed prior to the 1st day of Lab. The online work is completed while in the course, prior to each lab session. Additionally, this course meets the current American Heart Association guidelines for CPR and ECC.
EMR Hybrid Course Instructor Lead/Labs:
All online chapter readings, chapter tests, and FEMA, concussion online work must be completed to be eligible for the psychomotor exam.

Note: Psychomotor skills are not included in this course. These must be completed separately for an additional fee.
If you have current EMR certification, you are not required to take the psychomotor skills exam. However, you must demonstrate competency in psychomotor skills.

Is the EMR course offered by SAVE A LIFE the same EMR course that a college provides?
Yes it is the same state approved course.
Is this a State approved EMR Course?
Yes it is. The Minnesota EMSRB has approved this course.
Can I take the National Registry after taking this course?
Once you complete your written exam and psychomotor skills, you can register to take the NREMT registry exam.
Is it required to take the National Registry exam?
No. Many firefighters who anticipate traveling will sign up to take this exam, as many states accept it.
Do I have to do the FEMA courses online?
Yes. 100 & 700. FEMA. There are numerous exams, but we only require two. If you’re in law enforcement or fire fighting, you’ve likely already taken these exams.
Can I get CE’s from the MN POST BOARD in this course?
Yes we are approved by the MN POST BOARD for CE’s
