Lab Session Dates

Lab sessions are held in person on Mondays and Thursdays from 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM. Weekdays and Saturdays. The course combines lab/lecture and online work to ensure students receive a comprehensive EMT education.

Course Overview

This course offers students the opportunity to achieve EMR (Emergency Medical Responder) certification initially, followed by EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) certification. Students may obtain both credentials through this program.

A Bridge Course is available for current EMRs, nurses, or qualified students.  A Minimum Age of 16 Years Is Recommended to Begin This Program

This course will teach you to become an EMT in the areas of employment on an ambulance, in the emergency department, medical event coverage, or with a transportation service.

Included Certifications

AHA Basic Life Support CPR (BLS) is included in the lab portion at no extra fee.

Online and Lab Integration

Students are not required to complete all online coursework prior to the first lab session. Online modules can be completed alongside lab sessions, ensuring flexibility in learning.

EMR Credential Opportunity

The first half of the course provides an opportunity to earn your EMR certification (additional fee required for the exam). Once the EMR exam is passed, students can utilize their skills in the EMS field while continuing their education through the EMT program.

Program Standard

The EMT Hybrid course is based on Minnesota and National EMS Education Standards that will govern the way that you learn and practice EMS. Additionally, this course meets the current American Heart Association guidelines for CPR and ECC.

Students will learn to:

  • Safely assess and manage emergency situations encountered in pre-hospital environments.
  • Develop expertise in areas such as ambulance operation, emergency department services, clinic settings, EMS teams, event work, fire/police department assistance, and transportation roles.

Curriculum

The course utilizes the latest curriculum, Emergency Care, which illustrates best practices in EMS systems and provides a nationwide perspective for EMTs.

EMT Hybrid Online and Lab Course:

  • AHA Basic Life Support CPR (BLS)
  • Background Check
  • Clinical (10+) patient contacts in a variety of EMS locations (not scenarios but live patients), including ambulance north metro/rural, clinics, emergency departments, event coverage around the Twin Cities, and transportation services. We have contracts with EMS companies so students can have the most effective learning experience with their newly acquired skills in real-life EMS emergencies.
  • Lab Classroom: 60+ hours with EMS educators with years of EMS experience; guest speakers.
  • Online Access for 2 years and/or as a download. 100+ hours online program with audio, eText, multimedia with videos and 3D images, quizzes/tests, and flashcards. You can access this program from Blackboard Learn, Brightspace by D2L, Canvas, or Moodle.
  • Access to Educational Videos for additional learning.
  • Psychomotor Skills Exam with a free second attempt.
  • SAVE A LIFE CORPORATION includes a polo uniform and a shift/badge to be worn in class and at students' clinical.
  • Vitals supplies to be used in lab sessions and brought to clinical patient contacts.

Lab Specifics

The Lab and Skills portion of this course is completed over 8 sessions. Students must attend all lab/skills sessions and cannot substitute them with other instructor-led dates because the syllabus is completed at a different pace.

Important Policies

All online coursework must be completed before registering for lab/skills dates. If found incomplete, you will be removed from the lab/skills sessions until online requirements are met.

EMT Refresher Course
(Emergency Medical Technician)

EMS professionals are available to answer/educate each student over the phone, via email, and during in-person lab sessions. We aim to deliver the premier EMS educational experience, encompassing coursework, clinical training, and hands-on labs. This course prepares you for employment opportunities in ambulance services, emergency departments, medical event coverage, or transportation services.

Course Requirements

You must be a current EMT to take this course. Practical psychomotor skill stations will be reviewed, but not state tested. These can be completed in another course if needed. Didactic, NREMT requirement hours, and scenarios are practiced in the classroom. A Minimum Age of 16 Years Is Recommended to Begin This Program

Course Content

Our EMT refresher course covers the NCCP Model:

  • 20 Hours NCCR
  • 4 Hours LCCR/State
  • Additional Balance of 6 Hours LCCR/State and 10 Hours ICCR to Be Obtained Independently

This course is based on the EMS Education Standards that will govern the way we learn and practice EMS. It meets the current American Heart Association guidelines for CPR and ECC.

Course Overview

The current edition of Emergency Care of EMS shows activities and standard practices of EMS systems and EMTs around the country. We follow local protocols and recognize EMTs as an integral part of organized emergency medical services teams. EMTs are trained to:

  • Recognize and safely assess crisis situations.
  • Manage patients of an emergency nature in pre-hospital settings, emergency departments, clinics, and other scenarios, including fire and police departments, event work, and transportation services.

EMT Refresher NCCP Course Includes

  • NCCP Model: 20 hours NCCR, 4 hours LCCR/State
  • Ability to obtain additional CE hours towards the NREMT
  • AHA BLS CPR course valid for 2 years
  • 24 hours of classroom lecture and skills with EMS instructors

EMR and Nurse to EMT Hybrid BRIDGE Course

The EMR and Nurse to EMT Hybrid BRIDGE Course is designed for Emergency Medical Responders (EMRs) and nurses seeking to enhance their qualifications and transition into EMT roles. The EMR and Nurse to EMT Hybrid Course solidifies existing skills while expanding expertise in emergency medical techniques. Students learn to recognize, assess, and manage crisis situations effectively in pre-hospital settings, preparing them to work across various EMS environments, including ambulances, emergency departments, clinics, event coverage, and transportation services.

The EMR and Nurse-EMT Bridge Course Includes:

  • AHA BLS CPR course (in class)
  • Background check
  • Clinical (10+) patient contacts in a variety of EMS locations (NOT scenarios but LIVE PATIENTS). These include ambulance services (North Metro/Rural), clinics, emergency departments, event coverage around the Twin Cities, and transportation services. We have contracts with EMS companies so students can have the MOST effective learning experiences with their newly acquired skills on REAL-LIFE EMS EMERGENCIES.
  • Lab classroom (50+ hours) with EMS educators who have years of EMS experience, along with guest speakers.
  • Online access for 2 years and/or downloadable content: 100+ hours of online program materials, including audio, eText, multimedia with videos and 3D images, quizzes/tests, and flashcards. This program can be accessed through Blackboard Learn, Brightspace by D2L, Canvas, or Moodle.
  • Access to educational videos for additional learning.
  • Written and psychomotor skills exam with a FREE second attempt.
  • The SAVE A LIFE CORPORATION package includes a polo uniform shirt and badge to be worn in class and during students' clinical sessions.
  • Vitals supplies to be used during lab sessions and brought to students' clinical patient contacts.

Additional Fees

  • Required classroom uniform: SAL polo and/or white short/long-sleeved dress shirt, EMT black or navy dress pants, EMS boots, or black shoes for the classroom.
  • Clinical uniform: Every student is required to wear a SAVE A LIFE CORPORATION polo, EMT or 511 pants, and EMS boots.
  • The NREMT exam is to be paid for at the examination station of your choice. Cost: $100. Exam Type: Computer Adaptive. Questions: 70–120. Time Limit: 2 hours.
  • A paper textbook can be purchased for an additional fee.
